I spent 22 days in ICU, 16 of them in a coma. I was sent to a Healthsouth for thirty more days. I remember doing Sudoku, remember making cookies and remember some physical therapies. It was after about the fiftieth day that my memory came back to me. He's doing very well.......

Interesting that he's not like his pre existing "drinking" condition. Alot of disabled people post injury end up on the streets in cheap neighborhoods, drinking, smoking, drugging and end up in jail. Good for him for slowing down......

Sometimes school is one of the best places for a TBI survivor. It provides community integration, mental stimulation and perhaps most different from the competitive workplace, structure.

Sometimes I know I have many things I need to do. I wake up, get dressed, then I freeze up. Which one do I do first? I lock up. I have learned to just get one thing started, then react and keep moving. I don't know what it is about the brain after TBI, it just doesn't want to categorize, prioritize and get moving.

Lot's of memories here. I've never been the type of person to just "buy" something because I just saw it and want it. Thank goodness that is not a deficit. However, I do tend to buy the most expensive version of what I want now.

Neuropsychological testing on a someone that was active, educated can really be a telling story. ALways make sure it's a complete testing tho'. Just doing an MMPI-2 and out the door is not a true test of one's cortical and neurocognitive functioning.

Too many questions at once, too many sounds behind me. I agree with him that it's one thing at a time now. Busy restaurants and two people trying to talk to me at once is not good.

This is a poorly researched post in which you have made many incorrect assumptions. Ironically, Charles would have had a field day describing why your statements are erroneous and lazy. We have evidence that Charles was neither overwhelmed nor hopeless, but that he made a reseasoned proactive move to solve the problem of Adrienne's suffering. I disagree with his actions, but we also have evidence that Adrienne did agree with Charles. You assume that it is better to let a professional bear the responsibility of care. The idea that a professional can nurse a family member better than a loving spouse is wrong. I have worked for years as a registered nurse and hospice case manager. It was very satisfying to help and advise families caring for each other. Charles sought and followed professional advice and assistance, but the idea that a person who is working for money is inherently a better than a loving family member with guidance is foolish. Charles had great respect for lawyers who base their arguments on well researched fact and well reasoned argument. If you wish to honor Charles memory, do not write about his life without respecting those principles.

Paying bills never got taught to me and six and a half years later, I think I finally have a good system down. Brain rehabs are mostly worthless because they don't want to tell the insurance companies how much work you need, only want to collect money and hold you till you reach a settlement.
