Here’s a malpractice nightmare for you, another case of truth being stranger than fiction.

A 69-year-old woman who went to Montefiore Medical Center for a hernia operation ended up with severe brain damage, the New York Post reported Tuesday. She is now in a nursing home, where her attorney told the tabloid she spends most her time with her eyes closed.

The family of Patricia Imperati of Middletown, N.J., has filed suit against the Bronx hospital over what happened to the elderly woman following what should have been routine surgery last summer.

Imperati allegedly suffered internal bleeding and developed a horrendous infection following her surgery, which was performed by Dr. David Lee.

Yet the suit claims that the hospital didn’t treat the infection, and that the initial incision for the hernia surgery wasn’t closed properly, which caused Imperati to have internal bleeding, the Post reported.

The woman also developed a bedsore that went down to her bone, her attorney claimed.
