The lawsuit was filed in Orange County, Fla., by the relatives of Danielle Sampson,16, and names Tyrone Mosby as the defendant.

Mosby was convicted of attempted murder for his crime in July last year. He was fleeing the scene of a burglary he had committed and fired several shots, WFTV reported. One of the shots hit Sampson, who was coming home after going to church with her family.

Mosby is still awaiting sentencing for his conviction.

Sampson’s mother, Alma Fletcher, told WFTV that her daughter’s case is like that of slain Orlando police officer Alfred Gordon. His family filed a civil lawsuit against his killers and won a $24 verdict against them.
