It happens so often with the elderly: They stumble and hit their heads, sustaining traumatic brain injury. And last week it happened to Joyce Dreyfus, the wife of former Wisconsin Gov. Lee Dreyfus. And it was fatal.
Dreyfus, 85, fell and hit her head at an assisted living facility in Pewaukee, Wis., last week, according to the Associated Press.

Doctors at Waukesha Memorial Hospital operated on Dreyfus to stop bleeding on her brain, but she apparently had a stroke and did not regain consciousness. She died Thursday.
Dreyfus, who outlived the former governor, was surrounded by her family when she passed away, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Gov. Dreyfus was in office from 1979 to 1983, and he passed away in 2008, when he was 81.
